The Second Temple was built approximately 70 years after the destruction of the First Temple (Solomon’s Temple) in 586 BCE.
In it were used special & unique “Tools”, known as The Temple Tools. They were:
The Golden Menorah – a seven-branched oil candelabra that was situated in the Sanctuary on the south side. The Priests would light the Menorah every evening and the flames burned until the following morning. The Menorah is one of the symbols of the Jewish people, representing spiritual blessing in the world.
The Incense Altar – was positioned centrally in the Sanctuary, between the Golden Menorah & the Showbread Table. The Priests would light the incense on the Altar twice every day, in the morning and before dusk. The Altar represents the balanced combination of spiritual and material abundance.
The Showbread Table – was in the Sanctuary on the north side. On the table was placed 12 loaves and each Shabbat the Priests would share the bread between themselves and new bread would be placed there for the following week. The table symbolized the material blessing G-d gives the world.
The Ark of the Covenant – although not a tool itself, The Ark of the Covenant is the place where the Tablets of the Covenant were kept. It is gold plated and adorned with golden wreaths. The Ark was placed inside the Holy of Holies in the First Temple. During the Second Temple era, only the foundation stone was kept inside the Holy of Holies because the Ark of the Covenant had been hidden since the destruction of the 1st Temple.
